Showcase: Fender Classic Relic® HBS-1 Stratocaster®

We have been delighted to hook up with the Fender Custom Shop once again. The deciding factor was Gelb's deep affection for modern "players" guitars. After all, many advancements have been made in guitars in recent years, and why sacrifice improvements that make an instrument sound better and more fun to play!

Hence, the 60's Relic HBS-1. Ok, yes, it's got the vintage mid 60's C neck, the two piece alder body, a 3 ply pickguard, and the ever so comfortable finish wear spot on the back of the neck with a heavy relic paint job. It looks and feels old. But underneath that vintage package is a stealth modern instrument. The faster 9 1/2" radius and jumbo frets favored by today's players bring instant comfort. A Seymour Duncan SH-4 takes over the bridge pick-up with modern tonal authority, and the 60's noiseless pickups give it the authentic sound.

But the real killer is the S-1 switch hidden inside the volume control combined with the bottom tone knob. The switch chooses single or double coil on the Duncan, no surprise there. But the tone knob is a VOLUME CONTROL FOR THE NECK PICKUP! In single coil mode, you can bring in the neck pick-up for that great tele sound, or fatten up the humbucker during a solo. This guitar is flat out awesome. And, the heavy relic package ends that age old problem of worrying about dinging a valuable instrument. This is a gig monster!
